I have been a vegetarian for six years and as much as I believe that meat is murder I still think it is wrong to shove that idea down everyone’s throats not everyone has the privilege of being a vegetarian/vegan some people have illnesses that don’t allow them to cut meat and dairy out of their diets and some people choose not to for personal reasons so don’t policy someone’s diet okay just a ~~*friendly reminder*~~~
There is a big difference between shoving facts down someone’s throat and giving them a friendly reminder that there are very very very very VERY few people who have an illness or defect that would prevent them from adopting a vegan diet. Also, the “privilege” of being vegan seems like it stems from the belief that vegan food is more expensive than omni food when in fact the real and most healthy vegan food is generally the cheapest real food you can purchase - beans, rice, grains, produce. For those of us in first world nations (I’d imagine the bulk of tumblr users) vegan alternatives are available widely. And I find it hard to accept that any “personal reason” could ever be equal to the amount of suffering that an animal in the industrial agriculture system goes through for our pleasure.
I suppose what bothers me most about this post is that veganism, while being centered around diet, is far from simply a dietary matter, it is a political matter. Policing someone’s diet would be telling someone to stop eating potato chips because it is unhealthy. Letting people know that their burger went through the most agonizing life and disrespectful death imaginable is political activism and social justice.
This is probably the most aggro post i’ve ever made on this tumblr and the closest i will come to seeing like one of them angry militant vegans that everyone is always complaining about.
We would like to apologize for anyone who came out to the Eagles Lodge in Wichita, KS last night to see us play. We are terribly sorry we were not able to perform.
When we showed up to load in, the promoter and soundguy for the show were having a very loud, anti-gay conversation that we found…
these are my good dads right here. will be in CT on july 28th.
i have been finding myself spending waaay too much money on food, and not even good food from a legit restaurant, just shitty convenience from supermarkets and gas stations because i haven’t been planning ahead enough. Tonight i made 6 black bean burgers, ate 2 and froze the rest. I also made a batch of sweet potatoes mixed with amys black bean and corn soup, over some wild brown rice, which makes two hefty servings that i put into tupperware, which will be lunch for the next two days. I got all the stuff to make split pea soup, but i figure i’ll wait til wed night to do that since tomorrow is the Good Luck show and i’ll just be eating at the potluck there. Also, for any jim Jarmusch fans out there, i watched The Limits of Control tonight, which i have had in my possession from netflix since feb, which means i had it since living at The Cookie Jar. For some reason couldn’t bring myself to watch it but i finally sat down and made it happen tonight, felt good. Enjoyed the movie, didn’t love it but glad i saw it.
